Cleaning of Devka beach in Daman started on World Environment Day

Sea shores a favorite hangout place for people and families are nowadays become a dumping ground as tourists coming across and dumping all kinds of waste creating environmental pollution. These days masks have become the biggest pollutant to begin with due to the up rise of the pandemic which in turn is giving rise to various other infections and fatal funguses.

Caravan Classroom has taken up the initiative of cleaning the Devka sea beach of Daman in a herculine task starring from 5th June World Environment Day.

Joining hands with CPCB, Daman Municipal Council in association with Lions Club Vapi and Plastic bags manufacturers association, the 4 day long campaign starts from World Environment day on Saturday and will continue till 8th June celebrating as World Ocean Day.

The volunteers and people from DMC engaged in the clean up process from since early morning and remove the waste from the beach.

"Sea beaches are becoming dumping ground for the people as they carelessly thrown plastics and other waste at the beach. Nowadays thrown up masks posed a big danger to everyone and hence we decide to start the initiative to clean up the popular beaches of Gujarat which has the longest coastline. The activity will be six hours daily in morning and evening at Daman to clean up the beach of the waste, specially the thrown up masks which is very dangerous," Rajeshwari Singh founder Caravan classroom.

Idea behind choosing Daman, she said, it is the nearest from Vadodara and presently the beach is closed for people movement so they chose the time to clean up the beach. Around 40 volunteers is said to be engaged in the clean up task following all covid related guidelines. All involved are vaccinated.

Rajeshwari said the aim is to clean up the beach and spread awareness in people. The activity will continue and spread to other beaches as it's a ongoing process to clean up the beaches which are majorly polluted by the people visited for fun and slowly make them dumping grounds.
