CII's 5th edition of Industrial Safety Summit in Vadodara focussing on the process safety management as preventive measures towards industrial safety. The objective of the summit is to identify initiatives and practices to strengthen safety leadership at workplaces and disseminate the best practices.
"The summit focussing on Safety and risk management where as a apex body CII will present a report to the government after the programme and the round table conference of CEO's of various companies. The aim is create a awareness first to minimise the risk at workplaces. In recent years the industries growth in Gujarat increases but against it the industrial accidents are not increasing which shows the priority of government towards safety, " said P.M. Shah Joint director Industrial Safety and Health Directorate Industrial Safety and Health Government of Gujarat.
Experts attending the summit focussing on the process safety management as preventive measures towards industrial safety. "Gujarat is growing as industrial hub and the state has more chemical industries then other states in India. With the presence of such industries the state has the risk of 30% major accidents hazards. With such a situation a awareness in the behavioural practices specially the contractors is necessary to minimise the risk at workplaces, " said Nitin Dand chairman Industrial Safety Summit CII.
The experts suggest many important measures to implement in industries as well as at educational level to create awareness from the root level. "Hazardous goods parking area is one of the steps that government is implementing after our representation to them. Secondly there is a need to relook the safety officers course and steps to make it fast track so that the industries can get them quickly. Work at safety shall be reviewed to ensure the safety of workers. Process to eradicate asbestos shall be looked by the government. Finally as we are talking about the awareness the safety courses will be included in the school and college curriculum to implement it effectively," said Dand.
Apart from this they said the industries and companies are now focussing on maintaining safety parameters to sustain their brand value in the market as the effect is directly seen at the stock market. India is going to be factories hub in next 10 years and that also increases the workers safety.
