Charusat to host Smart Gujarat Hackathon on 27 and 28 February 2020

Around 100 teams will participate in Hackathon solving the problems selected from SSIP

Startups are important for economic growth of a nation and government is pushing the same to bring innovative ideas of young minds to help in the development. The Student Startup & Innovation Policy of Government of Gujarat aims to create an integrated, state-wide, university-based innovation ecosystem to support innovations and ideas of young students.

Gujarat Knowledge Society from the Education Department, Government of Gujarat has selected Charotar University of Science and Technology (CHARUSAT) as one of the hosts for the regional rounds of Smart Gujarat for New India Hackathon Competition on 27th and 28th February 2020. CHARUSAT is equipped with high-speed Wi-Fi, broadband internet facility, laboratories with computers configured with latest technology and softwares, Super Speciality Labs where more than 1200 participating students can surf the internet without any interruption.

The Smart Gujarat Hachathon will be organized under the coordinatorship of Dr. Amit Ganatra, Dean of Faculty of Technology and Engineering (FTE). Prof. Amit Nayak, Head of Information Technology Department, Devang Patel Institute of Advance Technology and Research (DEPSTAR) and Nodal Officer Mohammad Bohra, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering Department, (DEPSTAR), CHARUSAT will co-coordinate and execute the event under the guidance of Dr. Amit Ganatra.

The Smart Hackathon will be a 36 hours nonstop competition where teams have to solve problems presented by industries. Around 100 teams will participate in Hackathon solving the problems which they have selected from Student Startup Innovation Policy (SSIP) portal. 249 problem statements from different sectors like IT, Biomedical, Civil, and Pharma etc were displayed on SSIP portal.

The problems which industries are actually facing and wants to find the solution through technology are stated on the portal and government wants innovative ways to solve these problems. Students from various colleges of Gujarat will participate and provide solutions to the problem statement which they have selected. Apart from students, there will be mentors, experts, industry experts, jury and other officials to be a part of this one of its kind event.

This event will be a great learning experience for all the participating students and enable them to cope with the real-life challenges of the industries.
