1034 students, 120 mentors from various institutions across the state
participated to solve 74 problems
On 27th and
28th February 2020, the campus of Charotar University of Science and Technology
was brimming with positivity and hope for a better future.
The Student
Startup & Innovation Policy of Education Department, Government of Gujarat
aims to create an integrated, state-wide, university-based innovation ecosystem
to support innovations and ideas of young students and to convert it into
student startups.
Smart
Gujarat for New India Hackathon 2019-20 Regional Round was organized jointly by
Gujarat Knowledge Society (GKS) and Charotar University of Science and Technology
(CHARUSAT) on 27th and 28th February 2020. 193 teams consists of 1034 students,
120 mentors from various institutions across the state participated
to solve 74
problems. 30 plus teams from Faculty of Technology and Engineering, CHARUSAT
participated in the hackathon.
It was 36
hour non-stop event wherein the
participating teams participated to solve 74 problems like waste water
management system, smart agriculture, smart dustbin, development of curcumin
dispersible tablet, improving stability of clavulanic Acid in finished solid
oral dosage form, given to them by various industries, government departments
and government agencies. 45 Jury members from government institutes and
industries contributed to judge the event.
There are
total 7 hosts institutions for hosting regional rounds of Smart Gujarat for New
India Hackathon 2019-20 into which total 1519 student teams consisting of 7919
students, 275 Jury members, 159 academic institutions participated.
On 27th February 2020, Inaugural Ceremony of the regional round of “Smart Gujarat for New India Hackathon 2019-20” was held. The inaugural function was hosted by FTE, CHARUSAT, witnessed by domain experts, senior professionals from industries and academia, Judges and participants from different colleges. Dr. M.C.Patel, Shri Naginbhai M Patel, Shri Ashokbhai Patel graced the event with their presence.

Patel, Principal of Chandubhai S Patel Institute of Technology (CSPIT),
CHARUSAT and Dr. Amit Ganatra, Dean, FTE and Principal of Devang Patel Institute
of Advance Technology and Research (DEPSTAR), CHARUSAT were present on the
occasion.
In Execution
Committee of “Smart Gujarat for New India hackathon” from Directorate of
Technical Education (DTE) and GKS, Dr. K.G. Maradia from GEC, Gandhinagar who
is the Convenor of Hackathon remained present together with his team members,
Prof. B.H. Kantewala, Prof. Jayendra Vasani, Prof. Rena Shukla and Prof. Nirav
Suthar for smooth execution of Hackathon along organizing team of with
CHARUSAT.
Dr. Amit
Ganatra, who was the coordinator of the event, formally welcomed all the
dignitaries, jury members, mentors and participants from various parts of the
state, colleagues & students. He appreciated the active participation of
the students and the young talent.
Prof.
Mohammed Bohara, Nodal Officer for the event gave brief introduction about the
event and introduced DR. A.D Patel, Dr. Amit Ganatra. He thanked all the Heads
of Departments of CSPIT and DEPSTAR for their constant support.
Dr. K.G.
Maradia highlighted the significance of Hackathon and said “Hackathons provide
such an ecosystem to students where they solve big problems of industries,
government departments and down”. He informed about expected outcomes of this
regional round and gave best wishes to all participants for next Grand Finale
round of Hackathon. He also told about POC support upto 2 lac Rupees to
selected teams and how they will be connected to state ecosystem under SSIP
Policy for Technical support and Financial Support.
Anju Sharma,
Principal Secretary of (Higher & Technical) Education Department, shared
the successful journey of previous two Hackathons and gave best wishes to
participants through her video message.
Prof. Amit
Nayak, Co-coordinator of the hackathon guided all the Jury Members and
accompanied them for the visit of all the Super- Specialty labs at CHARUSAT.
In the
Valedictory ceremony on 28th February 2020, the hard work of organizing team
consisting of all Head of the Departments of CSPIT and DEPSTAR, faculty members
of both the institutes, Student volunteers was appreciated by all the
dignitaries. The Organizing committee of CHARUSAT presented Memento to all the
Dignitaries and Judges.
The
Execution Committee members of Smart Gujarat for new India Hackathon praised
the energy and enthusiasm portrayed by organizing committee of CHARUSAT. The
vision of New India, Smart India, and Digital India seemed closer to
realization after the closure of the 36-hour non-stop event.
