The government on Monday announced setting up of committees of senior officials for visiting states and union territories (UTs) to report on the implementation of the decision to demonetise high-denomination notes.

“The central government has constituted teams of Additional Secretaries/ Joint Secretaries/ Directors — with each team consisting of up to two to three officers for each state/UT — to visit the states/UTs and report back to the government on the status of implementation of the decision relating to cancellation of the legal tender of high-denomination bank notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000,” a Finance Ministry release said.

The teams would visit the states allocated to them for at least two days and tour across the state during their visit, it said.

The teams would assess the status regarding, among others, of “currency availability across the state, facilities at bank branches and post offices, status of calibration of ATMs to dispense Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 notes and impact of the decision on various segments,” it added.

The teams would submit their reports to the Department of Economic Affairs by November 25, 2016, the Ministry said.
