Stock Market: Sensex falls 284 points, Nifty also slips 74 points to trade at 17,242

The Sensex and the Nifty today declined around half a percent in the afternoon trade. Both stocks fell even as cues from global share markets were positive. The BSE Sensex was trading around 57,700 points while the v was trading below 17,250 level.

The Sensex fell 284 points, or 0.49 percent to trade at 57,706. The Nifty also slipped 74 points, or 0.43 percent, to trade at 17,242.

In the forex market, the rupee also depreciated three paise against the US dollar. The domestic currency was trading at 76 rupees and 21 paise per dollar when reports last came in.
