The Income Tax Department has initiated an investigation against Huawei, a Chinese telecom giant, for possible tax cheating. The raids are being carried out across the country at multiple locations linked to Huawei.
The raids are taking place in the National Capital Region (NCR), Bengaluru, and other regions of the country, according to IANS. A number of the company's account books are being examined by tax officials.
Huawei's financial records for the previous three years, as well as the company's records, have been examined by the tax authorities. According to the article, the officials compiled a "list of associates, clients, and partners of the company, which includes its global and country-based partners."
Huawei, for its part, claims to be fully compliance with all laws and regulations. It further stated that it did not engage in any form of tax avoidance... and will work with the Indian government.
"We have been informed of the visit of the Income Tax team to our office and also of their meeting with some personnel. Huawei is confident our operations in India is firmly compliant with all laws and regulations," the company said.
