The South Africans, who lost the first match of the one-day series against India, have suffered a major setback. Captain Faf du Plessis, who scored a century in the Durban ODI, will not play in the rest of the five ODIs and T20 series.
Du Plessis injured his right index finger during the first ODI at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead on Thursday, with further assessment and investigation revealing a fracture which will require 3-6 weeks to heal.
According to reports, allrounder Farhan Bahardin has been called in his place. It is also a big setback for the South Africans team as the star batsman AB de Villiers is already injured.
The captain for the remainder of the ODI series will be announced on Saturday.
