BCCI has sent name of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for Padma Bhushan. Padma Bhushan is the country's third highest honor. According to the statement released by the BCCI, only one name has been given by the BCCI for Padma Bhushan, it is Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

According to a BCCI official, In the captaincy of Dhoni, India won the 2011 World Cup and the 2007 T20 World Cup. Dhoni is close to 10,000 ODI runs, has played more than 90 Test matches. There was no other good choice from them at this time.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni recieved the Khel Ratna, Padma Shri and Arjuna Award before this. If Dhoni's name is final for Padma Bhushan, then he will be the 11th cricketer to receive this award.

Prior to Dhoni, other players including Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid, Chandu Board have received this award.
