This system has been found to be very useful as an intermediate alternative to BIPAP when patient needs more oxygen
Bain Circuit, an old cure for the new disease of corona is found to be very useful as an intermediate alternative to BIPAP when patient needs more oxygen. For the last 20-25 days in Sayaji and Samaras Hospital this technique has been successfully used on 250 to 300 patients as an alternative to ventilator.
Corona is a new disease that has a lethal effect on the lungs, disrupting the natural ability to breathe and exhale. In this disease and to save the life of the patient, oxygen is given in required pressure according to the patient's condition through the nose, NRBM, BIPAP and invasive ventilator. It is an essential part of treatment.
Currently the number of patients in need of high pressure oxygen has increased significantly and there is a shortage of ventilators despite extensive management in comparison.
An old anesthesia delivery system known as the Bain Circuit is proving to be very useful, especially in times of such emergencies, as a simple, convenient and effective remedy for invasive ventilators and BIPAP. Thus, the old treatment is proving to be effective and useful in corona treatment.
Dr. Neha Shah, Dr. Mamta Patel and Dr. Devyani Desai of the anesthesia department of Sayaji Hospital states that this is a very old technique of anesthesia science. The use of this system or technique has become more prevalent and widespread since 1972 when a scientific physician named Bain rediscovered the usefulness of this system or technique in giving oxygen to patients at high pressure.
This technique, which is very simple and inexpensive to deliver the required amount of oxygen to the patient's lungs and for the safe disposal of carbon in exhalation, has been found to be very useful as an intermediate tool in small hospitals that do not have ventilator facilities.
The system consists of an inhaler of appropriate diameter and an expiratory tube for exhalation. This system can deliver enough oxygen to the lungs in a very short time and can be used by patients of all ages.
The administrative nodal officer of the corona department of Sayaji Hospital, Dr. O.B. Belim said that under the supervision of specialist doctors in the anesthesia department at Sayaji and Samaras hospitals, they started using the Bain system for inhalation with sufficient pressure which has been found to be giving relief to patients. So far it has been used on 250 to 300 patients and in 50 to 60 of them the need for a ventilator can be avoided by using this system. Naturally, this has made it easier to provide ventilators to patients who need them more and more urgently. Since this system is much less expensive, donors can donate it.
While Corona's second wave is more deadly and has not yet been cured, doctors and researchers are saving lives by making effective and successful use of drugs and medical equipment to treat other respiratory illnesses. At the same time this old system of oxygenation in the patient's body has proved to be a very useful and blessed. Really need is the mother of discovery.
