In a worrying development, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has gone into self-isolation after developing a mild fever and sore throat. Media reports claimed Kejriwal has been having a fever since Sunday.

Kejriwal’s office has said he will undergo the COVID-19 test on Monday, earlier, media reports and some AAP leaders said Kejriwal would be tested on Tuesday.

Kejriwal reportedly cancelled meetings scheduled for him since Sunday afternoon. AAP sources that all meetings involving Kejriwal stand cancelled and the chief minister is at home.

Delhi has been among the areas of the country worst affected by COVID-19. As of Sunday, Delhi has recorded 28,936 cases of COVID-19 and 812 deaths from the virus.

Kejriwal has held regular online press conferences to highlight his government’s welfare measures and also steps to contain COVID-19. In recent days, Kejriwal has attempted to address the issue of availability of hospital beds in Delhi. Last weekend, Kejriwal accused some private hospitals of ‘black marketing’ hospital beds for COVID-19 treatment. On Sunday, Kejriwal announced government hospitals in Delhi would be reserved only for residents of the city.

In late May, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and some of his ministers were put in quarantine after the State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj and several members of his family tested positive for COVID-19.

However, Rawat subsequently tested negative for coronavirus. In April, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani stopped meeting visitors after he met a Congress MLA who tested positive for COVID-19.
