Indian farmers have the capacity to meet global demand for organic food: Union Agriculture Minister Parshottam Rupala

Anita Devang Patel Ipcowala Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence was inaugurated at Changa-based Charotar University of Science and Technology’s constituent institute Devang Patel Institute of Advanced Technology and Research (DEPSTAR) on Saturday, 23rd January, 2021.

The ADPICoE-AI Centre of Excellence at Charusat University received as a gift on the occasion of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary celebration and Parakaram Divas celebration. Renowned Spiritual Guru Pujay Bhaishri Ramesh Ojha and Mahant Ganeshdasji Maharaj of Umreth Santram Temple, Purushottam Rupala, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare were present as the distinguished guests on the occasion.

Registrar Dr. Devang joshi gave the welcome speech and introduction of all the esteemed guests present at the occasion. All the guests were greeted with a bouquet, a shawl and a memento.

Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Engineering and Principal of DEPSTAR. Dr. Amit Ganatra gave information about Charusat University, DEPSTAR and Anita Devang Patel IpCowala Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (ADPICoE-AI).

Provost of Charusat. Dr. Pankaj Joshi gave opportune speech on this occasion. Dr. Pankaj Joshi said that with the generous spirit of donors like Devangbhai Ipcowala in Gujarat, public service works are being done at a time when the demand for academic infrastructure is being created for the youth.

Parshottam Rupala, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, as the Chief Guest, said that the Centre inaugurated today in Charusat is a world class centre. It is a matter of pride that Charusat has become the host of this level centre. He said that Charusat benefited from the three types of people who are forgiving, rich but not arrogant, educated but humble. Charusat has benefited from donors like Devangbhai Ipcowala.

He further added that, it is a matter of pleasure and pride that this centre will benefit in agricultural research. At a time when there is a need to change the mindset of Indian farmers in the field of agriculture, efforts will be made to solve such old problems through this centre.

As women’s participation in agriculture grows, they need technological tools to help them. While youth is also more involved in agriculture, the Government of India has allocated Rs. One lakh crore has been given to the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund.

In the times of pandemic, the global demand for organic food has increased. The youth generation has to come forward to IT market and use artificial intelligence for that. Indian farmers have the potential to meet the world’s demand for organic food and it has huge market in India. It is a matter of pleasure that this centre dedicated to agriculture is being set up in Gujarat.

Mahant Ganeshdasji Maharaj congratulated the Ipcowala family who donated at the inauguration of the centre and congratulated the Charusat family. He blessed Charusat for his steady progress.

Devangbhai Patel Ipcowala, Leading Donor of Charusat and Chief Patron of DEPSTAR, IIIM, ADPICoE-AI, in response, said that with the blessings and guidance of Santram Maharaj, Narayandasji Maharaj and Indukaka, the flow of donations has continued. There are many donors in the society but there are very few who expose it.

It is my wish that the Centre will make steady progress. I am grateful to Charusat for the love it has given me and the opportunity to serve. Greeting me on this occasion shows Charusat’s closeness with me.

Blessing the occasion, Bhaishri Rameshbhai Ojha said that seeing the development of Charusat University, it is a matter of pleasure and pride that quality education is being done in it.

The religion of science and technology is related to the spiritual. I have become accustomed to seeing science through the eyes of spirituality, which has increased my aversion to science and strengthened my faith in religion.

The director of the nature is God. The gap between science and technology and spirituality should not widen. Those are the two sides of the coin. The people of both these regions should have a constant desire to know the truth while religion-spirituality is going on accepting the truth.

The work that is going on in Charusat awakens faith in this matter. The talk of bridging the gap between the two is starting from this centre in Charusat. If such centres are built all over the country, if the Minister of Agriculture adopts a scientific approach in the country and farmers cultivate, then the country and society will benefit. The strength that India and the Indian people have is in the few countries in the world.

Surendra Patel, President, Charusat-Kelvani Mandal, said in his presidential remarks, that the Green-Clean Campus Charusat has been constructed in the barren land with the cooperation of donors from nation and abroad.

Charusat has received the blessings of the saints so that progress has been achieved. We are blessed with donations from donors like Devangbhai. It is a matter of pride that it is the first University in Gujarat to start an online study in Lockdown and complete the course and take an online exam.

Charusat University is proud to inaugurate the Anita Devang Patel Ipcowala Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for doing such science works in the field of AI.

The centre will carry out various projects related to AI in and out of the university. The centre has an experienced team working on various projects. The scope of the centre covers everything from current life problems to evolving future techniques. The centre will work in the field of agriculture and healthcare, touching on normal life. Computer vision on the other hand will achieve excellence in development, optimization, recognition of machine learning and computational intelligence algorithms etc. as a solution to the problems of image processing.

The centre will also expand its horizons in other areas such as defence, transport, logistics, robotics, etc. The activities of the centre are organized into four sections namely research, teaching, industrial projects and entrepreneurship. The centre has state-of-the-art hardware and software facilities for conducting research in the field of AI which is one of the only such centres in Gujarat and one of the few in India.
