Akhilesh Targets Govt Over Farmer Issues

Akhilesh Yadav, president of the Samajwadi Party, has announced a series of major promises for farmers ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Addressing the media, he said that if his party forms the government, sugarcane farmers will receive payments within 24 hours directly into their bank accounts.

He also pledged loan waivers through legislation, along with crop insurance, free irrigation, and guaranteed minimum support price (MSP).

Yadav further proposed a Rs.15,000 crore “farmer revolving fund” aimed at ensuring timely payments and reducing farmers’ financial stress.

He criticized the current government for increasing input costs such as fertilisers, seeds, and diesel, making farming less viable. He also alleged that several farmer-friendly initiatives introduced during the SP regime have been discontinued or repurposed.

Highlighting future plans, Yadav stressed the importance of organic farming and better access to research and technology for farmers. He also questioned why “smart villages” cannot be developed alongside smart cities, promising that an SP government would work towards improving rural infrastructure and agricultural sustainability.
