A convoy carrying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was involved in a multi-vehicle collision on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, October 26. The accident occurred near the 90-km milestone in Sultanpur district while Gandhi was travelling from Lucknow to attend a court hearing. Reports said five vehicles and an ambulance were involved in the collision. Rahul Gandhi remained safe, while some Congress workers and security personnel reportedly sustained minor injuries. No serious injuries were reported in initial accounts.

Gandhi was travelling to Sultanpur to appear before a special MP-MLA court in a criminal defamation case linked to remarks he allegedly made about Amit Shah, who was the BJP president at the time, during the 2018 Karnataka Assembly election campaign. A local BJP leader, Vijay Mishra, filed the complaint in August 2018. The court had scheduled proceedings in the case for October 26. Following the collision, Gandhi’s convoy continued towards Sultanpur for the court proceedings. The exact circumstances of the accident were still being reported.
