In the NEET paper leak case, the Centre told the Supreme Court that it is considering shifting NEET (UG) from the pen-and-paper format to a computer-based exam, similar to JEE (Main and Advanced). The court directed petitioners, including a doctors’ association, to respond to the Centre’s affidavit. The matter will next be heard on August 19. The Centre said the final decision will be based on recommendations of a high-level task force headed by Nandan Nilekani.
The Centre also said comprehensive reforms are being introduced to prevent paper leaks and improve the examination system. FAIMA has urged that any decision to change the exam format be announced early, as students are currently preparing for the pen-and-paper format. The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Act, 2026 has also strengthened legal provisions against paper leaks, computer tampering and other examination-related offences.
