Two years ago, he was told that he might not run again ever. Today, he is a two times Commonwealth Silver Medalist.

India’s star long jumper Murli Sreeshankar has brought more glory to the nation at the 2026 Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow. In the men’s Long Jump final held on Wednesday (July 29), Sreeshankar produced an impressive leap of 8.09 meter to clinch the silver medal. This marks India’s 13th medal at the ongoing Games.

Despite returning from injury, Sreeshankar opened strongly with a jump of 8.02 meter in his first attempt, placing him second. He then produced a brilliant 8.09-meter leap in his second attempt to briefly take the lead. However, Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle clinched the gold medal with a jump of 8.15 meter. Sreeshankar narrowly missed the top spot by just 6 centimeters and had to settle for the silver medal.
