At least Eight cobra commandos of Central Reserve Police Force were killed in IED blast that took place in Gaya, Bihar last night.

The encounter began in afternoon and ended in the evening. The encounter took place as CRPF personnel started combing operation on information of a big assembly of ultras in Madanpur, a heavily Maoist-infested area of Aurangabad. A search operation is still underway under the supervision of CRPF’s inspector general and deputy inspector general.

After the Maoists opened fire first, the CRPF retaliated and killed three Maoists and injured half-a-dozen others. The Maoists, however, succeeded in taking away their injured associates to safe spots.

This is one of the biggest casualties of the elite COBRA unit which has been raised by the CRPF for undertaking special jungle warfare operations.
