74 corona infected children have been treated in Gotri Covid hospital

A 22-day-old baby has been discharged from the pediatric ward of Gotri Hospital and returned home after recovered from Coronavirus. In the last 6 months, 74 corona infected children have been treated by pediatricians in the pediatric department.

One divyang girl died during treatment among the patients, while 41 have been kept in home isolation and 21 discharged from the hospital.

Pediatrician of Gotri Hospital, Prof. Dr. Nimisha Pandya said, young children are less likely to get the corona virus because of the low ACE-2 receptor, so they do not get infected quickly. They have seen 2 types of affected children in particular among the corona infected pediatric patients here.

She further said, In the early days of the corona transition, they used to admit all the young pediatric patients, but now the children are being provided with home isolation as per the government’s phased guidelines. If the child develops a severe symptom, then they are admitted to the hospital’s covid positive ICU.

Co-professor of the pediatric ward at Gotri Hospital and nodal officer of the Covid ward, Ritesh Parmar said, young children are not treated like older patients tested positive of the virus.

They are recovering with treatment with drugs like paracetamol, vitamin-C and zinc. Children with low ACE-2 receptors are less likely to be infected with the corona virus. Due to the mild effect of corona in them, they recover quickly.

A child who has been vaccinated with all types of vaccines in childhood has a good immune system and recovers quickly.

He added that globally, the mortality rate from corona virus is only between 1 and 2 percent. If we talk about Vadodara, the mortality rate of Vadodara can be considered as 1.35 percent. The children who came to Gotri Hospital for treatment are recovering in 4 to 5 days and returning home.

He further said, out of 74 children who came for treatment at Gotri Hospital, 3 patients were under one year of age. 22 patients ranged in age from 1 to 5 years and 49 patients treated were over 5 years of age. One of the child was only 22 days old, Who has recovered and returned home.
