CHARUSAT University successfully revitalize Liberal Arts education in Gujarat

In 2014 Charusat starts to offer the Courses of Liberal Arts as a part of curriculum to 1st Year Under Graduate Students of all programmes of the University and so far more than 6000 students of the university have learned the lessons of liberal arts in last four consecutive workshops.

From last four years, Courses of Liberal Arts have been offered in the month of September in which 1200-1600 students of UG programs of 9 different institutes benefited. This year too, 10 courses on liberal arts will be offered simultaneously in the Workshop mode during September 26- 29, 2018.

A Course on Liberal Arts provides 10 courses to select one from with options are Painting, Photography, Sculpting, Media and Graphic Design, Pottery and Ceramic Art, Art and Craft, Contemporary Dance, Dramatics, Fashion Designing, and Interior Designing.

Ministry of Culture, Government of India took the note of the initiative and gave the opportunity to CHARUSAT to host the Yatra Paschimalap- An event of Lok Nritya and Folk Dance from March 1 – 8, 2017 in all the 8 Talukas like Anand, Borsad, Petlad, sojitra, Tarapur, Khambhat, Ankalav, Umareth of Anand District. More than 80 renowned Indian Artists and their Groups from Goa, Rajasthan, Hariyana, Maharashtra and Gujarat performed their Folk Dances.

“Liberal Art is by nature broad and diverse, rather than narrow and specialized. It will not only give a wide knowledge of subject(s) but help Students to find out their creativity latent in addition to satisfying their hobbies,” said Dr. Govind Dave, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Principal, I2IM under whose abled guidance workshops on liberal arts are being organized.

For effective implementation of the Courses and to provide the students the latest knowledge and creativity renowned national level Experts of National Institute of Design (NID), National Award Winner Painters, Wild Life Photographers, Designers, Actors, and Dancers are invited to deliver Sessions and Conduct Workshop.

The renowned national level Experts includes Dilip Oza, Former Senior Designer, Bhadresh Shukla, National Institute of Design (NID), Suresh Parekh, Sunil Adesara, Ketan Modi, N. Bhati, Amitabh Madia, Gujarat’s most award winner photographers Kanu Patel, Painter, Artist and Actor and many more.

The university has established Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) under Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) to nurture the holistic development of the students in three stages of Personal, Social and Professional. Humanities and Social Sciences offers courses like Professional Communication, Creativity, Problem Solving and Innovation, Values and Ethics, Academic Writing, Academic Speaking, Languages, Communication Skills, Psychology, Sociology, Liberal Arts, Society, Governance and International Studies and many more at UG and PG programs offered by University.
