In Uttar Pradesh, at least 17 people were killed and four others injured in a road accident in the outer area of Kanpur district last evening.

The accident took place in Sichendi area of Kanpur when a bus carrying passengers from Unnao to Gujarat collided with a tempo carrying local passengers. Police Commissioner of Kanpur Aseem Arun told media that most of the deceased persons were locals who were travelling in the tempo.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced ex-gratia of Rs. two lakh each for the deceased.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief at the loss of lives in a road accident in Kanpur.

In a tweet, Mr Modi said, many people have lost their lives in this accident. He expressed condolences to their families.

The Prime Minister wished speedy recovery to the injured.

Mr Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund PMNRF for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragic accident in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

The Prime Minister's Office, PMO said, Rs. 50 thousand would be provided to those injured in the accident.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has said that he is distressed to hear about the loss of lives in a road accident in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Mr Naidu expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
