Officer on Special Duty and Education Secretary Dr. Vinod Rao visited Gotri and Sayaji Hospitals on Friday and had a detailed review of Covid treatment arrangements.
He said that in both the hospitals, each has 575 beds for covid treatment. In contrast, 257 patients are currently undergoing treatment at Gotri and 200 at Sayaji Hospital.
In both the hospitals, 100 advanced ventilators are available in case of emergency. Against this 53 patients in Gotri and 31 patients in Sayaji are undergoing ventilator treatment. As part of the precaution, it is planned to add 10 more ventilators in Gotri and 50 in Sayaji in the next 2 days.
As a precautionary measure, the 50-bed covid treatment ward at Gotri’s ESI Hospital has been re-opened from today. Similarly, a 50-bed covid treatment facility at the Infectious Diseases Hospital in Karelibaug will be reopened next week if the need arises.
It is proposed to conduct fire safety audits in government and private hospitals approved for Covid once more in the near future. The Assistant Commissioner of Food and Drug Administration has been directed to conduct oxygen supply audits in government and private hospitals to ensure uninterrupted supply of oxygen to Covid patients undergoing treatment in hospitals.
