Union home and cooperation minister Amit Shah filed his nomination as a BJP candidate from the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha seat, which he has been representing since 2019, on Friday.

After filing his nomination papers, Shah said that the 2024 general election is about giving Prime Minister Narendra Modi a third term in office.

Accompanied by chief minister Bhupendra Patel and other state BJP leaders, Amit Shah submitted his nomination papers to Gandhinagar district election officer and collector M K Dave at 12.39pm, the “vijay muhurat” (auspicious time).

Shah said Modi’s third term in office will be significant, as the first two terms focused on correcting the wrongs done by the earlier UPA govt at the Centre. He added that the next five years will create a strong foundation for “Viksit Bharat.”

Shah said he was grateful to the party for renominating him from the Gandhinagar seat, which has been represented by party stalwarts like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani in the past.

He added that the Gandhinagar seat is also significant to him because he is a registered voter from the constituency.

A day earlier, Shah held three roadshows in areas within his constituency. He ended them with a public rally in the Vejalpur locality of Ahmedabad.

Shah won the Gandhinagar seat in 2019 by a victory margin of 5.56 lakh votes and is pitted against Sonal Patel of the Congress in the May 7 election.
